IT BEGAN LIKE THIS…
It all started here. It started here, on this Butterfly machine given to me by my Aunty Nike who first introduced me to the art of making clothes. I would go to the penthouse of my childhood home to watch her practise what she had learnt in fashion school. I would play with fabric swatches and make little outfits for my teddies because i did’nt get a barbie doll till i was like 8 years old. I would always go through the same old catalogs she had from the 80’s each time seeing something new. I would wonder how the very tall women in the catalogs were able to walk in those really fitted pencil skirts.
BABY STEPS
Started off as a fashion writer with different stints in Magazines like Thisday Style, Fab Magazine and Arise Fashion Week Magazine mainly because I love writing and partly as a way to be a part of fashion in some way. Fashion blog and many sewing errors after; Lady Biba was born. It was this same machine that produced the very first pieces with the Lady Biba label. I remember the very first label, it was satin, white, cheap but it worked. The font was red, i remember “Tempus Sans Itc” Our label is now black with a white font “Trajan Pro”. I designed it myself on photoshop. I chose the colour and font because it was classic. Something, I wouldn’t just wake up to change because of a design spritz.

AND WE GREW
At first, it was just me and a tailor. I did everything from fulfilling orders to customer service to procurement of materials to tech support for the website. And then, we added a tailor and then another and before I knew it, We were our own little village creating beautiful clothes for beautiful people.
A FEW THINGS TO NOTE
